Young talents promotion: Facts and History of Papua New Guinea Flag
Adopted on the first of July 1971, the flag of Papua New Guinea was design by a 15 years old school girl that won the flag design competition.
Even if the designer was so young, the actual flag has strong significance and connection to the state’s history.
Red and black are the colours that represented for many years the Papua New Guinea tribes, and combined with white and yellow, these colours also indicate the symbols of the country (Germany) that put the basis to the first colonies established in this region.
In addition to this, facts and history of Papua New Guinea flag show that the raggiana bird design was not randomly engraved as national ensign: it is a national symbol that makes the country’s citizens proud for what they do and who they are.
