The flag of Panama has a quite unique deign with its surface divided into equal shaped squares.

The first flag that has represented this country was adopted 1823 and consisted of seven yellow and red horizontal stripes with the shape of a golden sun and the ocean.

Facts and History of Panama Flag had a turnout when Manuel Amador Guerrero became the leader and he did not accept the prior design.

The actual flag was designed by his family members and has as symbolism the stars standing for political rivalry between Conservatives (blue) and Liberals (red).
