New Design, new beginnings, new competition: Facts and History of OAS Flag
Prior to the African Union, there was an Organization of African Unity that basically had the same role as the OAS.
When the new African Union was formed, there was a contest announced for creating a new flag for the union. However, facts and history of OAS flag show that the flag wasn’t changed after this contest.
There has followed a new contest 2007 and 2010, a new flag has been adopted: the flag’s green color symbolizes hope for Africa to have a bright future, white represents purity and the desire of the African nations to have true friendships with the world’s nations and red stands for solidarity and the sacrifice African people had to make in order to liberate their nations.
