The eight-wing swan: Facts and History of Nordic Council Flag
The Northern European countries were known for a long time as being a particular part of Europe: not only because of their demographic position, but also for the unity they showed throughout the years.
Having eight members, the Nordic Council flag stands as representative for the union formed between Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Aland and Iceland.
Recent facts and history of Nordic Council flag show that the flag was designed by a young Finnish artist and it is very rich in symbolism: the eight council members are surrounded by peace (white background) and in the middle, the eight-wing swan representing the unity of the council and its purpose: flight through the sky (blue circle) towards further development and progress.
