Being adopted 1959 the flag of Netherlands Antilles consist of a horizontal blue stripe with five stars in the centre and a vertical red stripe, both of them being designed on white background.
Facts and History of Netherlands Antilles Flag show that the national flag of the islands primary had six stars designed on it, but due to the fact that Aruba left 1986 out of the union, the flag was redesigned with only five stars on it.
This flag had the basic colours of the flag of Netherlands to which are the five stars added representing the main islands. Nowadays, most of the islands have their own flags and coats of arms, even if they are not officially accepted.
