Facts and History of Montserrat Flag

Intriguing symbolism: Facts and History of Montserrat Flag

One of the most intriguing flags of the world, the flag of Montserrat has on the blue surface two different symbols standing for two countries: Great Britain and Montserrat coat of arms with Irish symbols.

Being originally adopted 1909, the flag has been changed only once 1999 when the British Blue Ensign was enlarged in order to be recognized. Facts and History of Montserrat Flag show what actually happened on the Caribbean Islands during Colonialism: the islands were constantly traded between England, Spain and the other colonial powers.

The national coat of arms of this island impersonates Erin, the female symbol of Ireland holding a harp in her hand. Apparently this island had Irish, Spanish and English ancestors.
