Facts and History of Macao Flag

Lotus: beauty and virtue - Captivating facts and History of Macao Flag

Being initially a small Portuguese colony, Macao is a small Asian region that has as particularity Macao-Taipa or the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge that is connecting the Macao peninsula to Taipa Island.

Created by an arts professor, the actual flag of the region was designed to be adopted when the sovereignty of this region was given back to China (1993).

Even if the facts and history of the Macao flag are recent, it is worthy to mention that the flag has a strong significance: the Lotus being the Asian symbol for purity, justice and love, and the bridge and the five pointed stars on the green background point out the region’s faithfulness to the People's Republic of China.
